Location Rec

LOCATION 1: (SCENE 1)

This location will be used for scene 1 in which there is a mock prison line-up. The bars on the gates are a nice reference to prison bars which makes the fake line-up funnier.
The gates are next to a road so there is a chance it will be noisy but it is a relatively quiet entrance so this shouldn't be too much of a problem.

LOCATION 2: WOODS (SCENES 2, 4, 8)
Scenes 2, 4 and 8 all need non-specific woodland scenes. The woods are large and have lots of good paths and areas which would be suitable for these kinds of shots.
The light is very dappled in the late morning (photos were taken 11:45am) on the higher side of the woods (bottom two photos) so in order to get the most consistent light we will need to shoot on the lower side of the woods (top photo).
The woods are very noisy which could prove to be problematic as there are lots of bird sounds and sounds of other people. In order   to best avoid this we should shoot earlier in the morning when there are fewer people. This will also mean that the paths are clear. The paths are quite narrow so this ensures that we don't get in anyone's way and they don't get in ours. There are some more secluded paths in the woods which would also work well if we are wanting to avoid the public.

LOCATION 3: CLEARING (SCENE 3)
This is the location for Dale's briefing. It is a wide-open clearing which matches the description in the script. The light is once again quite irregular but this can change depending on the time of day of shooting. It is also quite near the entrance to the woods so it is sometimes busy but as long as we don't shoot at a peak-time this should not be an issue.

SCENE 4
The montage involves Emma attempting to eat berries off a bush. There are berries throughout the woods so this shot should be possible.

LOCATION 4: SCENES 5,6,7
This is one option for the location of Dale's "murder scene". It is a Victorian folly which has a nice creepy atmosphere which would add an element of horror to the film. Scene 6 requires this location at night, with the right lighting this could be a perfect spooky location.

Alternatively, this location could be used instead. It has a similar spooky atmosphere which would heighten the tension of the scenes. It also has a bench which is not necessary in the scene but could be used when the girls are talking. There is more space at this location and it is more out of the way meaning there is less of a risk of interaction with the public when filming here. I think that this location is better but I may shoot at both locations just to see which one is better and decide which to use in the editing process.

Another benefit of the second location is this overlook. I will need to shoot some short clips for the final scene when we see Dale watching the girls in the forest. There is a small platform and a bridge which overlook the location. Shots from either of these points would have a good voyeuristic quality to them that would give the sense that Dale was watching them. Shooting from far away could also be comical.

LOCATION 5: LODGE (SCENE 9)
I also have two options for the scene 9 location. The first is a golf club and the second is a primary school. I think that I will use the second location as it is more imposing and it is easier to get closer to than the golf club which is quite far away. The environment for this location is louder and likely to be busier but this can be avoided by shooting at a specific time of day.

LOCATION 6 : OFFICE (SCENE 10)
I chose this location for the final scene because it is in my house so I will have constant access for shooting. The sloping ceilings make it more ominous and like a villain's lair. The movements of the camera through the room will be interesting as I plan to track through the room. I think the shape and size of the room will make for a unique tracking shot. The fact that the desk is on the far side of the room is also useful as it allows the shot to show everything else in the room before reaching Dale sitting at the desk. This allows for a nice build-up and comedy can be added by the props in the room.
The room also has blinds which will allow me to block out
any natural light. This means I can use entirely artificial light which gives me more control and makes the scene more tense as I can provide minimal lighting to a dark room.
