Target Audience
I like this simple title card from 'The Queen's Gambit' as it is understated yet still conveys the tone of the piece well.
The target audience for my short film will primarily be young adults and teenagers. My film's protagonists are both teenage girls so this will make the film relatable and therefore more accessible for the desired audience. I also feel that the humour in the film is suited to a younger audience although it is accessible for most ages. The theme of death in the film and the occasional gore and threat makes my film inappropriate for very young audiences. However, the comedic tone means that the film is definetely appropriate for ages 12 and upward. I was inspired by Taika Waititi's 'Hunt for the Wilderpeople' and I feel that the audiences are likely very similar. 'Hunt for the Wilderpeople' is rated a 12 on the BBFC for "moderate bad language, innuendo, infrequent bloody images". My film does not contain innuendo but it does have very mild language as well as infrequent bloody images which indicates that my film would also probably be a 12.
Sound and Soundtrack
I am not going to write or commission any music for my film so I will be using royalty-free music that I find online. I only need music for the two montages and I would like to use the same track for both montages. I want to use a light-hearted/quirky song which will be contrapuntal to the scenario to make the montages more comedic. I will likely use the same track for the end credits as well so that there is a clear motif running through the film.
Here are some examples of the kind of sound I am looking for: Real Friendship - Royalty Free Music - HookSounds, Country Seasons - Royalty Free Music - HookSounds, Artful Fun - Royalty Free Music - HookSounds, Folk Love - Royalty Free Music - HookSounds (some of these tracks are not free but they are just examples of the kind of song that I would like to use)
In terms of other sound, I am going to add in sound effects of both a scream and an owl hoot. I am also going to use a voiceover for the opening scene which I will record separately. The voiceover is a parody on 'The Usual Suspects' line-up voiceover. The Usual Suspects Lineup HQ WS - YouTube
Graphics
I would like the type for my title and credits to be relatively simple. Even though the film is relatively comedic and light-hearted I would like the graphics to quite dark and low-key because of the dark setting of the woods and the occasional threat level. I feel that a light-hearted/ colourful type would give away the comedic twist so I would like the graphics to play into the false sense of threat throughout the film. I don't have any particular types in mind so I will likely experiment during the editing process.
I used the website 'art of the title' to find inspiration:

This title card gives slightly more away in terms of themes and tone of the film however, I could see myself using a similar style for my title cards.
